Oklahoma Tire Tax Increase

Raising taxes instead of cutting spending.  Someone still hasn’t got the message yet…

The Oklahoma Senate and House have each passed a bill that will more than double the recycling fee on new passenger tires sold in the state, as well as change the allocation of the state’s scrap tire funds. House Bill 1939 is now headed to Gov. Mary Fallin’s desk.

As first reported by Tire Review earlier this month, the bill would increase the fee for every passenger tire up to 19.5 inches to $2.50. Currently, tire buyers pay $1 for every passenger tire with diameters of 17.5 inches or less, $2.50 for every tire with diameters of 17.5 to 19.5 inches, and $3.50 for eachtire larger than 19.5 inches. The fee for tires larger than 19.5 inches, in addition to fees on agricultural and motorcycle tires, will remain unchanged.

The change in the tire tax is to help fund state tire recycling efforts and other pollution control projects. According to the Oklahoma House, it will raise $6.6 million in additional revenue.

The bill also changes the name of the tire recycling fund from the Waste Tire Recycling Indemnity Fund to the Used Tire Recycling Indemnity Fund and defines a “used tire” as “an unprocessed whole tire or tire part than can no longer be used for its original intended purpose but can be beneficially be reused.”

Ask Gov Mary Fallin to veto this bill to raise taxes because we need to cut spending and reduce the size and scope of government;

Sadly  the Oklahoma House and Senate fail to ‘get it’ yet~
