The southern states are poised to dominate the early 2016 campaign schedule for the Presidential hopefuls. Arkansas just joined Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, & Tennessee for a March 1st Super Tuesday blitz.
Louisiana will follow on March 5th. Yes, that’s a Saturday event, but the former French colony has some rich traditions like that.
Celebrating with our new Chairman Randy Brogdon at the Republican Gala Event tonight at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City. I was thrilled to be able to attend with LaShelle Griffith. We visited with friends before, during and after the event having a grand time! We heard a skyped in message from Ted Cruz during dinner and then heard from his father Pastor Rafael Cruz who was with us for the evening. Dr. Ben Carson was our keynote speaker, and a most gracious gentleman he is. It was a wonderful evening, well attended and with lots of enthusiasm for the future. There will be a straw poll at the events tomorrow so if you are attending, be sure to cast your vote for your favorite candidate.
On Wednesday, GOP Presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) took to the floor of the Senate for 10 hours and 30 minutes to filibuster the renewal of Section 215 of the Patriot Act. The controversial section, which is used by the National Security Agency to justify its bulk collection of Americans’ data, is set to expire at the end of the month.
Paul held the floor from 1:18 p.m. to 11:49 p.m. on Wednesday. Politico noted that by extending his filibuster to the brink of Thursday, Paul prevented Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) from filing cloture on a bill that would extend the Patriot Act.
