I so wanted to be there in person! Thankfully Randy Barnett was able to live stream me in to the live service on December 29, 2023. I captured some screen shots and will add some thoughts as I listened to the various speakers. The pervading thought that I had was that I was hearing about A LIFE WELL LIVED! A life that touched so many facets of so many people’s lives.

We will all miss him but as the pastor said although Porter is absent from among us. He is present with the Lord! He gave a great analogy of being absent in school, but we know where the child is – at home with his parents. Same for us when a believer passes – absent with us but present with the Lord. We shall see him again.

Here is the program from the event:

Dan Fisher (I believe) gave the opening remarks (mentioned above, but that was before I had a visual) and then he introduced the four speakers to follow and I was able to get a screen shot.

There was a video montage of family photos through the years and a very powerful video footage of Porter Davis giving a speech on our shared grassroots vision. Porter I am sure liked that he got to speak!

The first was a lifelong friend named Ken Johnson. Amazing to have a friend for 75 of your 77 years. Ken even admitted they differed some on political matters, but remained lifelong friends – living in houses next door to one another and plotting to build a tunnel between their second story bedrooms growing up! A plan quashed by their parents, he added. He shared lots of stories through the years of family and friends and filled a space of time before I knew Porter and Terri.

Ken Warner, OKC County Chair, brought us up through the political years in the OKC area. He credited Porter with getting him involved and encouraging him through the years. I believe they were in the same precinct and traded the chair slot back and forth.

David Callihan filled us in on some of the Ron Paul years. He actually met Porter while in Florida while working to get delegates seated. They also worked together on some of the ensuing court battles. He ultimately moved to Oklahoma to continue his work here on a book he and Porter were collaborating on. He mentioned OKGrassroots and our efforts with he and Porter. We look forward to more on that effort in the coming days.

Porter’s nephew gave a very compelling honest confession of having been prompted by the Holy Spirit to go see Porter the day before he passed. He said he was busy and did not do it but certainly regretted it encouraging us all to be prompt and obedient when we get that nudge! He talked about how Porter led him to the Lord when his life was a wreck and nurtured him through the years. He had some very personal words of encouragement to family members there. He modeled a couple of jackets left to him by Porter, the first one being a tweed, and the last one being an OSU jacket. Ah the many facets of Porter Davis!

.

My closing remarks are simply to salute you Porter on a life well lived! Your family and friends are a testimony to that. You loved us well while serving the Lord at the same time. Til we meet again.

With much love, admiration, and respect,

Sandra Crosnoe
