On September 8th, members of the OKGOP Budget Committee met to discuss the current financial state of the state party.
We hear this time and time again. You may have said the same thing.
“Before I give money to the OKGOP I want complete disclosure of how the money is being spent”.
Sounds like a reasonable, conservative, business-like request, does it not?
Republicans who pay attention to the activities of the State Party are asking even more questions than usual. Here are some:
- “The Budget Committee is supposed to approve line-item spending. Why has there not been a Budget Committee meeting since 2021?”
- “Does the money belong to the State Committee, or to the State Chairman?”
- “For whom does the State Treasurer work, the State Committee or the Chairman?”
- “Why is the State Committee not receiving detailed up-to-date financial reports?”
As with any number of big questions there are many related questions which remain unanswered. Some are asking questions about the income side. The State Finance Committee is supposed to do the fund raising. But questions abound, such as the following:
- “Why has the Finance Committee not yet held a meeting since the May Convention?”
- “Why has the influx of donations slowed to a trickle?”
- “What is the plan to raise money; and who will be the source of those donations?”
- “If the Party intends to rely on the big donors, what promises will be made?”
It has been four months since the May OKGOP State Convention. By comparison, the first Budget Committee Meeting in 2021 was held in August of that year. There were three meetings during that year. In addition, donations began steadily flowing into the Party in May of 2021, sufficient to fund every budget line item approved by the Budget Committee.
