In Oklahoma, often our most contentious election battles are fought in the primary. In our deep red state, many candidates run as Republicans, but fail to live up to those values in the Oklahoma legislature. This election season, the voters paid attention to the records of those incumbents, and sent a group of new grassroots candidates to the Capitol!

A grassroots candidate, Jonathan Wingard, stood up to run against the Senate Pro Tem Elect, Greg McCortney (R-Ada). In a huge upset, the people of Senate District 13 voted out McCortney, and are sending local business owner and veteran Jonathan Wingard to the Oklahoma State Senate.

Other key wins included Molly Jenkins beating Rep. John Talley and Gabe Wooley beating Rep. Dean Davis.

In the recent runoff, Jim Shaw rain against the House Appropriations Chairman, Rep. Kevin Wallace. It came out through the campaign process that Rep. Wallace had used biosolid fertilizer. This is something that many are voicing concern over this being practiced on Oklahoma fields because of how it will impact the quality of our water supply and soil. Dark Money spent over $300,000 supporting Wallace or opposing Shaw. Yet, the people of House District 32 voted for the grassroots voice and a man who will stand for his district, Jim Shaw.

Kendal Sacchieri beat incumbent Sen. Jessica Garvin, a state senator who had refused to take a stand against medical mandates in 2021 and had a lifetime rating of 66% with Oklahoma Constitution. After the results of the runoff, Kendal went live on Facebook, and shared the following statement in a video, “We are taking back our Capitol….we are ready to focus on the people of Oklahoma and we are ready to get our voices heard!” Watch full video here.
