If you care about the First Amendment, you should care about January 6. As was proven by the release of the January 6 tapes, January 6 was a peaceful protest where a couple people got out of hand, instigated in many instances by FBI agents and informants.
But why were people there on January 6?
They were there because of the First Amendment which states that the people have a “right to peaceably protest and petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The grievances committed against the working people of America in 2020 are almost endless, closing businesses, churches, schools, telling you how to handle your own health and that of your family, telling you whether your job was or was not essential, etc.
On top of all of the lockdowns and tyranny, election laws were changed and mail in ballots were instituted nationwide, removing people’s confidence in their vote. Voting is one of the most fundamental rights we treasure as Americans. And whether or not the election was safe is irrelevant to the fact that the people should have confidence in their vote and be free to question the government.
We are told that the 2020 election was the most safe election in American history. Even if it was the most fair and secure election, the people still have a right to protest, if they can’t trust the confidence of their voice.
This country was built on the idea that common people don’t need experts and elites to rule them. So in 2020, the elites in government and the media, told people that no matter what they saw, experienced, or believed, the election was safe and secure. The people disagreed, as they have a right to do, and went to the U.S. Capitol, where they are supposed to have a voice, and protested.
We are supposed to be a self governing nation where elected officials listen and represent the voice of the people. But they didn’t. So the people exercised their rights and protested. Regardless of if the people were right in their belief about the election, they were right to try and hold government accountable. That’s what it means to be an American. You know your rights and when government abuses them, you hold government accountable. If we lose the First Amendment and the right to protest, we lose everything. So whether or not you agree with the people’s reason to protest on January 6, you should be glad that enough Americans still care to speak up and do something when government abuses their power.
If you think they’ll be content to just criminalize the people from January 6, you are sadly mistaken. They changed the narrative. Patriots are extremists and terrorists. And if they win this battle, they’ll come for everyone who speaks against their narrative, for any reason, for years to come.
