Dear Chairman Dahm,
Thank you for your reply to my questions concerning the overpriced registration fee for the State Convention in May. We do understand that there are costs to conduct the Convention, but we can also do math. If only 1200 attend, similar to last year’s convention, the State GOP would make over $115,000 in registration fees. Since it is a presidential election year, attendance will certainly be higher. That should mean you can charge less, not more.
The State Party’s lack of fundraising does not give the right to try to make up the difference for your lack of funds with this cost increase. Chairman Dahm, transparency, especially with finances, has not been a strong point with your administration. The registration fee should be based on the actual cost of the convention. Please be transparent and provide a breakdown with receipts for the convention costs.
Your email, which you said was “to give additional context and information”, gave none. You provided no clarity except to use a childish excuse to say that other state Republican parties charge high prices and get away with such atrocious behavior. I will put it to you like I would a small child, “If everyone jumped off of a bridge, would you?”
During COVID, many cities and towns instituted a curfew. When my town tried to implement a curfew and cited that everyone else was doing it as a reason, we sued them. They immediately withdrew the tyrannical curfew as they had no legal right to do it. When everyone else was wearing masks and caving into pressure to take a poisonous jab, I never caved and encouraged others to go against the flow. “Because everyone else is doing it” is an unacceptable reason, especially at a professional level. We expect more from our State Chairman.
In your email you also state, “No one is being forced to attend.” You do realize that attending the convention is not just a privilege, but an election in which we will vote on the delegates and electors that will represent us in the presidential election? Anyone who wants to participate should be allowed to without undue burdens or restrictions.
Please do your fundraising at your gala and events, not at meetings where Republicans would like to do business. This increase seems punitive in nature and is completely unethical.
Chairman Dahm, the people seek to participate in the Party and seek a leader who can unite the Party. We want to be able to unite with you and fight the evil coming against our country. However, the email you sent seems to be fighting the people you are supposed to represent.
We look forward to a more transparent response along with the receipts justifying the price jump.
For Freedom, Charity Linch
Note: For GOP members who did not receive Chairman Dahm’s original email to justify the high registration fee, I have included it below.
