Rep. Tom Gann (R-Inola) files two important bills that will protect the rights of Oklahomans and stop verbal earmarks.

First, Rep. Gann files a bill that seeks to “Expose and End Secretive Practice of Verbal Earmarks.”

“…Verbal earmarks take this bad policy to a new level. This practice allows a few powerful legislators to direct the spending of state money, and worse, because this is done behind closed doors, the people of Oklahoma have no ability to know that the spending came at the request of a powerful legislator.

“The shady practice of verbal earmarks does a great disservice to the public, to the state agencies, and to the majority of legislators who have neither the inclination nor the means to participate in this shady practice,” Gann said.

The second bill aims to “Protect Oklahomans from Overreaching ‘Road User Charge’ Plan”

House Bill 2970 comes in response to what Gann termed are growing concerns over the Oklahoma Road User Charge (RUC) Task Force’s controversial “Road User Charge” proposal. “Under their Orwellian proposed plan, Oklahomans would be monitored on every mile they drive, and pay a tax for each of these miles,” Gann said.
