Many of us have realized in the last few years that our elected officials do not represent the voice of “We the People.” I woke up in 2020 and realized that our “pro-life, pro-family, conservative” officials, who campaigned and said they were going to stand up for our rights were sitting by silently as our government tyrannized our lives and the lives of our neighbors.
When I talk with everyday Oklahomans, we disapprove of mask mandates, lockdowns, closing churches, vaccine mandates, abortions, drag shows, CRT, Black Lives Matter, the Biden Administration, the weaponization of DOJ/FBI, and gender confusion. Our government should represent our values.
In 2021, I started attending local meetings and visiting legislators’ offices. As thousands of us stood up in our communities and state, we made our voices heard. Yet, in looking at my city council and the Oklahoma Legislature, we still aren’t seeing results of the elected officials standing up for the people.
So what is the answer? How do we make our voices heard? I believe that “we the people” are the answer.
This is why I want to encourage you to run for office. We need elected officials who hate tyranny and want to protect a future of freedom for their children.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German pastor who saw the evils of the Nazi ideology coming to his home country. He fought for truth – from rallying the German church, to helping Jews escape, and eventually even assisting with an assassination attempt on Hitler himself. He famously said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. Not to speak is to speak, not to act is to act.”
Have you been silent? Could this be your moment to speak or to speak more effectively? Could you stand against the onslaught of tyranny and evil? Could you stand for truth, even when it costs?
“We the People” must have a voice. Lobbyists, largely funded candidates, and comfortable elected officials are not standing for “we the people.”
By running for office, you can be that voice.
Practically, start small. A city council or school board seat can make a huge difference. Put your name on the ballot and challenge the incumbent, encouraging that incumbent to answer to their voters. Download the active voter lists and door knock. Share passionately about what you believe and promise to stand up for the voters’ rights and freedoms.
This nation changes when “We the People” stop abdicating our responsibility. It’s going to take more than just voting. It’s going to take us, doing the work, being willing to put our voice in the fight, and taking a stand for freedom.
School board filing deadline is December 4th. Get more information here.
