Representative McBride (R-Moore), Education Appropriations and Budget Chair, issued a subpoena to State Superintendent Ryan Walters to provide materials to McBride’s office by January 5th regarding statements Walters made in a media interview. The subpoena was also signed by Representative Rhonda Baker (R-Yukon) and Representative Charles McCall (R-Atoka).
McBride, who questioned whether porn existed in Oklahoma schools, and whose last campaign was partially funded by the teachers’ union OEA, has set his attention on Ryan Walters.
Ryan Walters is seeking to give power to parents and is working to make education less woke in Oklahoma. His emphasis on bringing conservative values and parental rights back to Oklahoma schools has upset the Left and the teachers’ unions.
Rep. McBride has been attacking Walters since early this year, and his latest actions include demands for information from the State Superintendent. McBride says, “Based on the way that Superintendent Walters and his advisor have acted towards legislative inquiries into OSDE spending, we have no way to determine if state taxpayer dollars are being spent properly by the Department.”
Superintendent Walters’ Senior Advisor Langston responded, “Representative McBride has repeatedly lied about Superintendent Walters and the State Department of Education. He has made up false narratives and has yet to show a serious effort to improve education in Oklahoma. All Oklahomans should question his political and ideological stances. Representative McBride actively works with Democrats and teachers unions to undermine Superintendent Walters’ and Oklahomans’ conservative policies.”
The OKGOP State Committee passed a resolution in October supporting “Ryan Walters, which said, in part, Ryan Walters has been an effective and courageous public servant by 1) standing up to the Oklahoma political machines, 2) removing pornography from schools, 3) pushing out critical race theory and DEI, 4) removing Marxist propaganda, 5) pushing back against the lies of teachers’ unions, 6) focusing on improving education and empowering parents.”
The resolution went on to read, “Any Republican (Mark McBride or any other) member of the OK House or Senate who supports in any way or votes to impeach or remove Ryan Walters will be censured by we the people (as defined by the Oklahoma Constitution and by the United States Constitution.”
As a member of the state committee, I would like to warn the Republican legislators that the OKGOP is watching your actions and you will be held accountable.
